LIFEIN THE REARVIEW MIRROR

My philosophy of life is, “You are born, you die and in between you do something.” While doing that something, you learn something. My posts on this Blog are not attempting to change anybody’s mind. I know I can’t do that, but maybe after my seven decades plus of life experience, I can shed some experiential light on another way to think. Life gives us something to do and I believe a big chunk of my life’s something is giving others something to think about. Think about that.

Majority Rules?

Fifteen percent of the US population did not have health insurance (many voluntarily without). For 15% we are discombobulating our entire health care system (arguably one of the best in the world) and handing its administration over to an entity that hasn't shown any significant ability to produce a workable website, much less run financially sustainable social programs.

Six percent of US workers work for minimum wage, and for 6% we are disrupting the core of American success, the free market system, by taking away an organization's basic function of determining what their worker's skills are worth, thus setting the federal government up to micro manage Bob's Burgers.

Three and one half percent of the US population is illegal and for 3.5% our Congress is spending its few working hours actually discussing opening up the gates of our country to those whose only demonstrated skill is the ability to walk or ride across our borders and take our high minimum wage jobs.

Four percent of the US population are professed LGBTers and for 4% we are changing the centuries old, legal history, tradition, world wide accepted and recognized definition of marriage as the union of one man and one woman.

Fifteen percent of the US population live below or at the poverty line, for 15% we are turning the US into a nanny state and relegating an entire component of our population to being wards of the state for generations.

It would seem our Congress spends the majority of its time on the minority of its citizens. What's the benefit of being a majority any more?

I was thinking, how can I cash in on this power of the minority?

I Googled, and only 3% of the population is between 70-74 years old and that makes me even more of a minority than any of the above. So if I want it, and I do, I should be entitled to even more concessions.

Seeing what is coming in the not too distant future I think I will march around with a sign demanding free nursing home care for anyone over 70. Medicaid pretty much does that now, but you have to have spent down most of your existing assets in order to qualify and I don't think that's fair. I don't want to have to do that. I worked all my life for my money and I should be able to keep it all and let those people who were more skilled, persistent and financially successful than I take care of me.

I also think the government should eliminate all of those commercials on TV that people over 70 don't understand. I'm tired of watching and thinking “What in the heck was that all about?” I realize that would be unwieldy for advertisers but tough, it's what I want and if I want it, I ought to be able to have it.

Given my newly found influence as a 3% er, I would also demand the government require people to speak louder, drive slower and eliminate RAP music because that's what I want and, after all, I am a minority.

Anybody against what I want I can call “ignorant,” “bigoted,” and “narrow minded,” and they will cave.

Wish I would have thought about this minority hustle awhile ago.
